Bridge 78 Audlem
£25.00
Bridge 78 sits among the flight of 15 locks at Audlem, part of Telford’s plan to build a canal more like a railway. His Birmingham and Liverpool Junction Canal, later the Shropshire Union Canal, slices through hills in deep cuttings and strides over valleys on high embankments, taking the straightest and quickest route. Locks were bunched close together in ‘flights’ which made them quicker to work; a narrowboat locking through most Audlem locks can be entering one lock while hauling its butty into the lock behind.
