Ebley Mills, Stroud
£25.00
Ebley Mills have sat in the Stroudwater Valley since the 14th century, but the present imposing blocks alongside the Stroudwater Navigation date from the 19th century. Much of Gloucestershire’s historic wealth came from the wool trade, originally based in cottages in hilltop towns, moving down into the river valleys when Industrial Revolution’s factories needed water power. Once there were over 200 mills but falling demand and competition left most unused by the mid-20th century. Stroud District Council now occupies Ebley Mill.
