Farmers Bridge Locks 1, Birmingham
£25.00
Birmingham is 200 feet above the surrounding countryside so was being bypassed by the early canals linking the Rivers Trent, Mersey and Severn. But merchants funded a short canal to serve local coalfields and then the Industrial Revolution created over 180 miles of canals and 216 locks. The 13 Farmers Bridge Locks lift canals from the East and Southeast up 24.7 metres (81 feet) to the level of the ‘New Main Line’.
