Hillmorton Middle Locks
£25.00
From Hillmorton Middle Lock the 16th century tower of the Church of St. John the Baptist peeks over the trees. The church overlooks the canal and part of Hillmorton, which was a combination of two settlements; ‘Hill’ was on the hill, and ‘Moor’ was the lower lying! The three locks are consistently the busiest on the canal network with over eight thousand boat movements in 2021. It’s often claimed that canals are ‘busier now than they ever were …’. In 1840 20,859 boats passed through Hillmorton locks!
