Ludgate Hill Bridge

Ludgate Bridge over the ‘Old Thirteen’ on the Birmingham & Fazeley Canal sits surrounded by bland brick buildings. But follow Ludgate Hill up to find the exquisite 1779 St Paul’s church, sitting in Birmingham’s only tree lined Georgian Square in the fascinating Jewellery Quarter. The church and square were funded by a local landowner to tempt the wealthy to build houses on his surrounding estate, but the coming of the canal quickly brought industry and commerce to the area and scuppered his plans!
