Middleport

In 1889 Burleigh Pottery moved into its 'state of the art' Middleport works alongside the Trent and Mersey Canal in Burslem, Stoke on Trent. Of its seven 'bottle kilns', so called because of the distinctive shape, only one remains, narrowly saved from demolition in 1982, once over 2000 stood in the Potteries. The pottery itself was narrowly saved from closure in 2011 by the Prince's Regeneration Trust raising £9m to restore the buildings and create a visitor centre still producing the world famous Burleigh ware.
