Pontcysyllte Aqueduct
£25.00
The spectacular Pontcysyllte Aqueduct (a UNESCO World Heritage site) towering 38.5metres above the River Dee. A ‘magnificent masterpiece of the canal age’, the 307 metre long, 19 arch aqueduct was completed on 1805, the inspirational work of William Jessop and Thomas Telford. The canal is carried in a cast iron trough, made of dovetailed sections, sealed with Welsh flannel dipped in boiling sugar and molten lead. The trough sits on tapered stone piers, hollow towards the top to reduce weight.
