Stoke Bruerne was a busy village dating back to Roman times, cut in half in 1800 when the Grand Junction Canal was opened from Braunston to the River Thames. It prospered from the boatmen who passed through, the two canalside pubs being popular overnight resting places. It now attracts tourists, to the famous Canal Museum, canalside pubs, tearoom and restaurant and the nearby mile and three quarter long Blisworth Tunnel.
