The adjoining 1876 Boiler House, Pump House and tall Hydraulic Accumulator contained two Lancashire type horizontal boilers. These raised steam to drive hydraulic pumps which powered cranes and capstans on Telford’s seven acre canal port. The port was an important storage and transshipment facility between narrowboats and river and sea going craft. One boiler is still in place and can regularly be seen in steam as part of the exhibits at the National Waterways Museum which now covers the site.
