Long Itchington

Long Itchington Locks with their characteristic hydraulic paddle gear. They are on the climb into Birmingham on the Grand Union Canal, a few miles west of Royal Leamington Spa. Most canals have one summit level, the Grand Union has two. It climbs from the River Thames at Brentford up into the Chiltern hills, descends, then climbs again to the Birmingham summit level, over 180 locks in all.
