Sutton Stop

Hawkesbury Junction is at the northern end of the Oxford Canal where it meets the Coventry Canal. Sutton Stop is the local name for the area, the Sutton Family being lock keepers here for over half the 19th century. The shallow stop lock was not used to lower the canal but to keep the water belonging to the Oxford Canal Company separate from that belonging to the Coventry Canal Company. The collection of waterway buildings is now a conservation area.
